Lanin Volcano (climbing, ski - mountaineering)

Copahue volcano (ski-mountaineering), is a stratovolcano with a composite cone situated on the central Argentine - Chilean border. The 8-km-wide caldera formed 0.6 million years ago near the NW margin of the Pliocene. The eastern summit (2925 Mts.) crater contains a briny crater lake and displays intense fumarolic activity. Since the 18th century, infrequent explosive eruptions have been recorded. About 1,800 volcanoes are located on the Argentine-Chilean border. Approximately 28 of the volcanoes are considered active and represent about 20% of the Earth's active volcanoes. Season for ski-mountaineering: May - November. Copahue volcano is near Caviahue city, which is right in the province of Neuquén, at the foot of the Caviahue lakeside, flourishes this mountain village which in mapuche language means "place for celebration or reunion". Caviahue possesses a rustic landscape sprinkled with streams, falls and woods.

In winter, copious snowfalls cover the territory in white. In this season the tourist can practice skiing in the white valleys and the nearby plains. The ski runs, used for the cross-country style and, in a lesser degree, for the Alpine style, follow one another embedded in araucaria woods. In summer, its surroundings are specially suitable for adventure tourism, such as horseback riding, sporting fishing, mountaineering or familiar exploratory walking, mainly due to the relatively low level of difficulty in the region trails and paths.
Copahue is a small village, famous for its thermal baths, has not a stable population, and is only inhabited during the summer season by swallow inhabitants. Copahue is embedded in a ten hectares ravine. The whole area displays a heavy and complex thermal activity, recognized as one of the best three in the world.
Chapelco, Mt.Mocho (ice-climbing, ski-mountaineering), near Chapelco ski center there is a Mt. called Mocho, which have a south face full of beautiful ice-waterfalls. Season for ice-climbing: June (if you are lucky!) - September. Go to "pradera del Puma" in Chapelco ski center till the end of "ancla" ski lift (Mt. Mocho-north face), from there circle the mountain to the left at the same level curve. When you are in the other face you will see the ice-waterfalls. Ski-mountaineering is possible in all surrounding area.

Mt. Curruinca & Mt.Bandurrias (rock-climbing). In the last years rock-climbing starting to be popular in San Martin de los Andes, having more and more devoted. According to this increasing number of climbers, a quite not so small number of equipped routes (Alps style) are available. From the Lacar beach in SMAndes take the trekking to "Mirador Bandurrias", and as soon as you cross "Pocahullo river" and walk 150 mts you will find at the right the first wall with a dozen of routes. Most of the times route description are transmitted from climber to climber, however one of the best places to know about this routes (and climbing in general in the area) is "Bar Deli" also in the Lacar beach (ask for "Pablo Dominguez").

Nahuel Huapi National Park (Bariloche)

Frey area surrounded by "towers" and high peaks and on the shore of Lake Toncek´s green and cold waters, at 1700mts above sea level. One of the best climbing spots in the area.

Mount Tronador (3554m), season: September to April. Duration: 3-4 days. Level: Medium.
